SAUTERNES -- Bordeaux's most famous white
wine. 25% Sauvignon Blanc, 75% Semillon. A small
trove of this great old 1997 vintage was
recently found in their cellars and after
tasting it and finding it SUPERB, we managed to get some!
Madame de Rayne is the second wine of Château de Rayne
Vigneau. It pays homage to Madame de Rayne, one of the
illustrious owners of the château, whose maiden name was
Catherine de Pontac. She bought the château in 1834 and
worked to establish the greatness of its wines.
The vineyard lies on a splendid gravel mound,
overlooking Sauternes near the village of Bommes and
forming the third highest point in the area after Yquem.
Madame de Rayne is very much in the line of the “Grand Vin”,
receiving the same care and attention but choosing a more
immediately accessible style, both fresh and intense.
The perfect desert wine or served with Foie Gras to create
the most perfect pairing appreciated by gourmets around
the world. Very Small Production of only about 24,000
bottles a year.
